Getting assessed in Kelowna
For adults in Kelowna, the public route to ADHD-related assessment usually starts in primary care. In British Columbia, people can use the Health Connect Registry to be matched with a family doctor or nurse practitioner if they do not already have one, and HealthLink BC 8-1-1 can help connect residents to local services; Interior Health also operates Kelowna Mental Health & Substance Use and notes that some adult psychiatry services are referral-based. BC's public system includes MSP-covered physician and nurse practitioner care, while prescription dispensing in community pharmacies is recorded through the provincewide PharmaNet system, but a private virtual ADHD assessment can fit alongside that system as an out-of-pocket option for adults who want a nurse-practitioner-led video assessment and whose situation is suitable for virtual care.
British Columbia uses PharmaNet, a provincewide network that records prescriptions dispensed in community pharmacies and processes PharmaCare coverage, and the province has also described prescription monitoring programs for controlled and other potentially harmful prescription medications. If a virtual clinician sends a prescription electronically within BC systems, the prescription information is sent through the relevant electronic prescribing workflow to PharmaNet, and a Kelowna community pharmacy enters and dispenses it through PharmaNet when you present for pickup or related pharmacy service.

FAQ
If you already have a family doctor or nurse practitioner, that is usually the most practical starting point because primary care can review your symptoms, rule out other issues, and decide whether referral to psychiatry or another mental health service makes sense. If you do not have a regular provider, BC's Health Connect Registry lets residents register to be matched with a family doctor or nurse practitioner, and HealthLink BC 8-1-1 can help you find services while you wait. Interior Health also says Kelowna residents can call 310-MHSU to connect with their local mental health and substance use centre.
There is a local non-hospital entry point. Interior Health has a Kelowna Mental Health & Substance Use location and says residents can call 310-MHSU to connect with their local centre. The Kelowna page lists access mental health and substance use services, counselling and treatment services, crisis response, and mental health group counselling and education. Hospital care is still part of the system when needed, but Kelowna General Hospital is not the only official route mentioned on Interior Health pages opened in this session.
The clearest verified in-person options I found on official pages are Interior Health services in Kelowna. Kelowna Mental Health & Substance Use is a community site with weekday hours listed by Interior Health, and Kelowna General Hospital's official page lists adult and adolescent psychiatry among its specialty services. Interior Health also has a separate adult psychiatry assessment and treatment service page stating that referral is required for that program. The official pages do not promise ADHD-specific in-person clinics for adults in Kelowna, so suitability and referral path should be confirmed case by case.
Both major Kelowna post-secondary institutions have formal accessibility offices. UBC Okanagan's Disability Resource Centre says registration is required to receive academic accommodations, and its page lists advisor appointments, document upload, and contact details in Kelowna. Okanagan College says accommodations are set up through Disability Access Services and starts students through a Disability Self-Assessment reviewed by a Disability Access Coordinator. Whether any particular assessment is accepted is an institutional decision, so students should ask the office directly about documentation requirements before booking privately.
The official local and provincial pages do not publish a Kelowna-specific ADHD intake checklist, so it is sensible to prepare the items that local systems clearly rely on. Have your BC personal details ready for health system interactions, including your Personal Health Number when using the Health Connect Registry, and bring a list of current and past mental health care, medications, and prior records you can access. If you are a student seeking accommodations, also check with UBC Okanagan's Disability Resource Centre or Okanagan College Disability Access Services in advance so you understand what documentation their office may require.
