Assessment & diagnosis

The whole process, from completing your self-assessment and registration to scheduling a diagnostic appointment can often be completed within a few days, depending on availability. Our team works diligently to ensure timely and effective care.

You’ll be asked to fill out some intake forms and complete a few assessments prior to your evaluation. These forms and assessments, which take about 20-25 minutes in total, provide essential information about your current symptoms and past medical history to help licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus make an accurate diagnosis. All of this can be done from the comfort of your home. No other preparation is necessary.

Assessments are conducted by licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus in participating Canadian provinces. They have experience in ADHD and mental health care and follow the Canadian ADHD Practice Guidelines (CADDRA).

In the majority of cases, 75 minutes is sufficient for a comprehensive ADHD assessment. Our process combines cutting-edge AI technology with the expertise of licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus to ensure no crucial details are missed. Our proprietary AI tools help analyze your responses and identify symptom patterns, allowing your healthcare professional to focus on discussing your medical history, current challenges, and the impact of ADHD on your life.

In some cases, additional time may be required to complete a thorough evaluation. If this applies to you, your healthcare professional will discuss the need for a follow-up session, which may involve an additional cost. This ensures that every aspect of your diagnosis is carefully considered without compromising the quality of your assessment.

It’s completely natural to feel nervous and we’re here to help. Licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus will guide you throughout the process, asking specific questions to help jog your memory. Even if you don’t remember everything, the goal is to understand patterns across your life that could point towards ADHD. You’re in safe hands with Finding Focus.

If you’re diagnosed with ADHD, your healthcare professional will review your results in detail and discuss potential treatment options, which may include medication, therapy, or lifestyle changes tailored to your needs.

Your diagnosis will be visible in your portal within 24 hours. If you need a formal diagnosis letter for school/work or to share with your Healthcare provider, you can request it directly through the portal. We also offer assistance with completing the Disability Tax Credit form and creating custom medical letters. There is a fee for the preparation of these documents, which is detailed on the portal, along with the processing times for each request.

If you’re not diagnosed with ADHD, your healthcare professional will carefully explain the findings and discuss other possible reasons for the challenges you’re experiencing. Based on your unique situation, they may recommend alternative treatments, therapies, or referrals to other healthcare professionals who can provide additional support.

At Finding Focus, we’re committed to helping you gain clarity about your mental health and guiding you toward the best resources to support your well-being.

Treatment & medication

Yes, if it’s determined that medication is a suitable part of your treatment plan, licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus can prescribe ADHD medication. We advocate for a comprehensive approach to treating ADHD, which can include medication, therapy, and lifestyle modifications.

Yes, Finding Focus offers a variety of treatment options for ADHD, including both stimulant and non-stimulant medications. Licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus understand that every individual’s needs are unique, and we believe in a personalized approach to treatment. If stimulant medications are not suitable for you, for any reason, we can explore non-stimulant options.

Non-stimulant medications work differently than stimulants but may be effective for some individuals in managing ADHD symptoms. They may also have fewer side effects. Besides medication, we also encourage and support lifestyle modifications and coping strategies, which can play a crucial role in managing ADHD.

Remember, the goal is to find a treatment plan that fits you best and helps you lead a fulfilling life. We’re here to guide and support you every step of the way.

ADHD is a chronic condition that many people manage throughout their life. While there isn’t a “cure” as such, it’s important to know that there are many effective strategies for managing ADHD symptoms, and these can lead to a high quality of life.

The need for medication varies from person to person. Some people may require medication throughout their lives, while others may find they need it only during certain periods. Our team at Finding Focus will work with you to find the best approach based on your individual needs and circumstances.

In addition to medication, lifestyle modifications, behavioral therapy, and coping strategies can be very effective in managing ADHD. These non-medication strategies can sometimes reduce the need for medication, or even eliminate it over time. However, this varies greatly from person to person.

We believe in a comprehensive approach to ADHD management at Finding Focus, and we’ll work closely with you to find the best combination of strategies to manage your ADHD effectively.

Absolutely! We believe in a comprehensive, multi-modal approach to managing ADHD. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be particularly effective in treating ADHD and can be an excellent complement to medication management.

We can provide referrals to external CBT providers to support your treatment plan where appropriate. Incorporating CBT into your treatment plan can help you develop useful skills and strategies to manage your ADHD symptoms and improve your overall quality of life. We’re here to support you in creating a treatment plan that best suits your unique needs and lifestyle.

At Finding Focus, patient safety is paramount. We follow stringent protocols to prevent drug misuse and abuse. This includes thorough evaluations for substance abuse history, random drug testing, regular monitoring, and careful prescription practices. We also provide education about the safe use of medication and the risks associated with misuse. Our continuous care program further ensures that medication use is closely supervised, allowing for adjustments as necessary.

If a patient is struggling with substance abuse, our team at Finding Focus will work to provide the necessary support and resources. This may include adjusting the treatment plan, providing referrals to specialized substance abuse programs, or collaborating with other healthcare providers involved in the patient’s care. We are committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care and will take every step necessary to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our patients.

We work with pharmacies such as PocketPills to help quickly deliver your prescriptions. If you selected PocketPills as your pharmacy, we will send your prescription to PocketPills and they will automatically reach out to you with the next steps.

Membership & ongoing care

If you’re diagnosed with ADHD and start treatment, your healthcare professional will schedule a follow-up appointment during the initial assessment, typically within 30 days. This follow-up allows us to review how you’re responding to the medication, make any necessary adjustments, and complete refills. When you agree to the follow-up, you’ll be enrolled in our membership program, which includes a 10-minute check-in visit once per month. The membership has no commitments, and you can cancel at any time or switch to a pay-per-appointment option for $75 per visit.

To cancel or modify your membership, log in to your portal by clicking the top right corner of our home page. Once logged in, navigate to the Membership section and select either “Cancel” or “Move to Pay Per Appointment” to make changes.

Our continuous care program is designed to provide ongoing support for our patients diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, or depression. Regular check-ups, medication management, and necessary adjustments to your treatment plan are all part of this comprehensive service.

Getting a diagnosis is sufficient if you don’t require ongoing treatment or medication management. However, if you start treatment, we recommend enrolling in the monthly membership, as it includes regular 10-minute check-ins to monitor your progress, adjust medications as needed, and ensure your treatment plan remains effective.

The membership is optional, and there are no commitments—you can cancel anytime. Alternatively, you can choose to pay per visit at $75 if you prefer to book appointments only when needed.

Licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus are well-equipped to diagnose and treat a range of mental health conditions. If you’re diagnosed with ADHD and also have other conditions such as anxiety or depression, your personalized treatment plan will address all your diagnosed conditions.

Records & documentation

Yes. Licensed healthcare professionals working with Finding Focus can support you through the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) process, including reviewing eligibility and assisting with the medical portion of the DTC form (T2201). As part of your assessment, we evaluate how ADHD impacts your daily functioning.

If appropriate, your healthcare professional can provide the necessary medical documentation and complete the required sections of the DTC form to support your application. We aim to make the process straightforward by guiding you on next steps and ensuring all required clinical information is accurately documented.

Absolutely! We believe in the importance of coordinated care. If you’d like to share your assessment results with your family doctor, we can prepare a detailed report summarizing your diagnosis and treatment plan.

This report is crafted specifically for healthcare professionals, using clear and comprehensive medical terminology. Once completed, it will be sent directly to your family doctor after you’ve provided consent. The preparation of this document includes a fee, and you can request it directly through your member portal. Processing times are also outlined in the portal for your convenience.
