Can I use a credit card for an online ADHD assessment?

Quick answer

Yes. Finding Focus takes payment online by card through Stripe, and the $399 adult assessment fee is charged in Canadian dollars at checkout. Card numbers are not stored by the clinic. If you would rather spread the cost, Affirm and Klarna instalment plans are offered inside the patient portal, subject to approval, and a receipt with the clinician's registration number is issued whichever way you pay.

Yes: the assessment fee is paid by card online through Stripe

Finding Focus processes payments through Stripe, a third-party payment processor, and its privacy policy states that the clinic does not store payment card numbers. You enter your card once, at checkout in the patient portal, and the fee is charged in Canadian dollars. The adult assessment is a one-time fee of $399; the youth assessment (ages 12 to 17, in select provinces) is $699 for two 60-minute sessions. Any applicable taxes are shown at the point of purchase.

Paying by card does not change anything about the assessment itself. It is still an up to 75-minute video appointment with a licensed nurse practitioner or clinician working with Finding Focus, based on DSM-5-TR criteria and CADDRA-aligned practice, and it can conclude that you do or do not have ADHD. The fee covers the assessment, your results and a treatment plan, which are often available within hours. What is covered in detail is on the pricing page.

A credit card carries consumer protections that other payment methods do not

A credit card is the simplest way to pay, and it comes with federal protections. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) states that if someone uses your credit card without permission, your maximum liability is $50 unless you demonstrated gross negligence, and Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Interac have each publicly committed to zero liability for unauthorized use. A federally regulated financial institution must fully investigate any transaction you dispute. None of that applies to cash or e-transfer.

If you are choosing between paying now and waiting for a public route, the trade-offs are laid out in whether an online ADHD assessment is worth the cost.

Affirm and Klarna instalment plans are offered inside the portal

You do not have to pay the whole fee on one card statement. Finding Focus offers instalment plans through Affirm and Klarna. According to the clinic's FAQ, interest-free plans spread payments over 3 or 4 months, extended plans of up to 12 months are available subject to approval, and if Affirm or Klarna does not approve you, an in-house instalment plan with an additional fee is offered instead. To use them, create your account, log in to the portal, choose the instalment option and select the Affirm or Klarna logo.

  • Affirm's disclosed rate range is 0 to 31.99% APR, based on creditworthiness and an eligibility check; not everyone qualifies for 0%.
  • Affirm's age requirement follows the province's age of majority: 18 in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan; 19 in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. Canadian citizens or permanent residents only.
  • Affirm accepts debit cards and pre-authorized debit for repayment; only select plans allow repayment by credit card.
  • Actual terms, including any payment due today, are shown at checkout before you commit.

Paying by card does not change your receipt, your insurance claim or your tax claim

Whatever card you use, you receive a receipt that shows the healthcare professional's registration number and the amount paid. That is the document an extended health plan, a health spending account or the Canada Revenue Agency will want. The CRA lists registered nurses, including nurse practitioners, as authorized medical practitioners for the medical expense tax credit in every province and territory, so an unreimbursed nurse practitioner assessment fee can be included on line 33099 of your return, subject to the annual threshold (for 2025, the lesser of 3% of net income or $2,834).

Two practical points. First, insurers reimburse the amount actually paid, so if a promo code lowered your fee, the receipt shows the lower figure and that is what you claim. Second, the CRA only allows the portion of an expense that you have not been and will not be reimbursed for, so claim the tax credit on what remains after any plan payment. The exact paperwork is covered in what receipt you need to submit an ADHD assessment claim.

What the Terms of Use say about refunds, missed appointments and chargebacks

Read the refund terms before you pay, because a card dispute is not a substitute for them. At the time of writing, the Finding Focus Terms of Use state that once you book an appointment, rescheduling, refunds and cancellations are not provided, and a missed appointment carries a $50 fee. If the clinician does not attend or is more than 15 minutes late, the clinic will make reasonable efforts to reschedule the same day or another convenient time, or may refund the fee at its discretion. Completed appointments are not refunded.

The Terms also state that a promotion or discount may be voided or reversed if the related purchase is refunded, charged back or cancelled. So if you used a promo code and later dispute the charge with your card issuer, expect the discount to be reversed as part of that process. Support questions about a payment go to support@findfocusnow.com, and the clinic notes that it may switch payment processors in future.

If you have not yet decided whether an assessment is right for you, the free self-assessment screener takes a few minutes and costs nothing. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis, but it can help you decide whether to book and find out whether you have ADHD.

The Terms of Use require that you are authorized to use whatever payment method you add to your account. A parent or partner can pay for you with their card if they have agreed to it. Keep in mind that for tax purposes, the CRA allows a medical expense to be claimed by the person who paid it or by a spouse or common-law partner, so decide who will claim the receipt.

Yes, fees are charged in Canadian dollars; the Terms of Use state that all amounts refer to Canadian currency unless specified. A card issued outside Canada may be accepted by the payment processor, but your issuer may add a foreign transaction fee and convert at its own rate. If you are a newcomer or an international student, contact support before paying to confirm your card will go through.

Most health spending accounts work by reimbursement: you pay the full fee by card, then submit the receipt and the account pays you back what it allows. Some accounts issue their own card that can be used at checkout. Either way, the receipt shows the total paid, and you should only claim the portion you were not otherwise reimbursed for.

Yes, but only if you choose it. The $399 fee covers the assessment, results and a treatment plan. Ongoing care is optional and billed separately, either as a $29.99 monthly membership or $74.99 per check-in for adults. Documents such as a standard diagnosis letter ($49) or a healthcare-provider report ($99) are also separate. Each is a separate card charge with its own receipt.
