ADHD Coaching for Adults in Ontario

Coaching for the practical side of ADHD: the morning that falls apart, the deadline you knew about for a month, the forms and bills and replies that pile up. Sessions build routines that fit your brain instead of routines you keep failing.

For adults 18 and over located in Ontario. Coaching is not a crisis service: if you need help now, call or text 9-8-8, or call 911.

ADHD coaching starts from a simple observation: most adults with ADHD know exactly what they should do. The gap is between knowing and doing, and that gap is not fixed by more advice. Coaching works on the doing. It looks at one routine at a time, finds where it breaks, and redesigns it around how your attention and energy actually behave. The measure of a good session is not insight; it is that Tuesday morning went differently.

The routines people bring most often are mornings, sleep, deadlines, email and paperwork, money admin, the household, and keeping a medication routine. A coach helps you build external structure that does the remembering for you: capture systems, calendars that you will actually look at, timers, body doubling, and check-ins that create a deadline where there was none. Coaching is delivered here by the same Registered Social Worker who provides the CBT track, which matters when a routine problem turns out to have a mood problem underneath it.

Coaching is not therapy and does not claim to be. It does not treat anxiety or depression, does not diagnose, and does not touch medication; those stay with your clinicians. It is also usually not reimbursed by extended health plans, and a session booked as coaching may be taxable, unlike psychotherapy. Sessions are 50 minutes by video or phone, from $149, paid one at a time with no membership.

One routine at a time

You pick the routine that costs you most. The session takes it apart step by step, finds the point where it fails, and rebuilds that point. Next session you report what happened and adjust.

Structure that does the remembering

Capture, calendar, cue, check-in. The tools are ordinary; the design is what makes them survive an ADHD week. Your coach helps you set them up during the session rather than assigning them as homework.

Accountability without judgment

A coaching session is a deadline you would not otherwise have. When something did not happen, that is data, not failure, and it is usually the most useful thing you bring.

How it works

1

Map the week

The first session walks through a real week, not an ideal one: where time goes, where the friction is, what you avoid and what you hyperfocus on.

2

Choose the first routine

Usually the one with the biggest daily cost. Mornings and evenings are common starting points because they set up everything else.

3

Build it in the session

You leave with the routine set up: the alarm labelled, the capture list created, the calendar block placed, the cue in the right spot. Small enough to survive a bad day.

4

Review, adjust, add

Each following session reviews what held and what did not, then adjusts before adding anything new. Sessions space out as routines become automatic.

Coaching session fees

50-minute sessions from $149

Paid per session, in advance, with no membership. A session booked as coaching may be taxable; the checkout total is the amount charged. Coaching is usually not reimbursed by extended health plans, while CBT sessions from a Registered Social Worker often are. If reimbursement matters, read the fees page before choosing a track.

Frequently asked questions

Coaching works on what you do this week: routines, systems, follow-through. Therapy works on how you think and feel: worry, low mood, shame, avoidance. Coaching does not treat a mental health condition. At Finding Focus both tracks are delivered by the same Registered Social Worker, so if a routine problem turns out to have a mood problem underneath, you can move to the CBT track without starting over.

The research base for coaching is smaller than for CBT and much of it comes from students, so honest coaches make modest claims. What the studies do report is better self-regulation, organization and follow-through for people who engage with the sessions. Your coach will tell you plainly what coaching is unlikely to change, including core attention, which is a clinical matter.

Usually not. Extended health plans reimburse regulated health services such as psychotherapy, and coaching is not one. Your receipt will still show who provided the session, but you should assume coaching is an out-of-pocket cost unless your plan says otherwise. A health spending account may be different; check its rules.

Yes, in the practical sense: remembering doses, timing them with your day, tracking how you respond so you can report it. It never involves advice about what to take or how much. Any question about the medication itself goes to your prescribing clinician.

Nothing formal. It helps to think about one ordinary week and where it went wrong, and to have your phone or calendar handy, because your coach will set things up with you during the session rather than after it.
