Therapy and ADHD Coaching: Frequently Asked Questions

Everything people ask before their first session, in one place. Each answer links to the page with the full detail.

Sessions are for adults 18 and over located in Ontario. They are not a crisis service: if you need help now, call or text 9-8-8, or call 911.

Therapy at Finding Focus is one-to-one, 50 minutes, by video or phone, delivered by a Registered Social Worker who works from your Finding Focus record. You choose between cognitive behavioural therapy and ADHD coaching when you book, pay one session at a time from $149, and stop or pause whenever you like.

The questions below cover eligibility, fees and insurance, records and recording, what your therapist can and cannot do, and what to do if you need help urgently. Where a question needs more than a paragraph, it links to the page that gives the full answer.

If your question is about ADHD assessment, diagnosis or medication rather than therapy, the ADHD Answers hub covers those in depth, and the pricing page has the current fees for assessment and ongoing care.

Frequently asked questions

Adults 18 and over who will be physically in Ontario at the time of each session and who have a Finding Focus portal account. Sessions are individual only. Youth patients aged 12 to 17 are not eligible for therapy sessions.

Sessions are $149 and up, paid individually and in advance at booking. There is no membership, no package and no minimum, and nothing renews. The fee shown at checkout is the total charged, including any tax that applies to that session type.

Your receipt carries the Registered Social Worker designation and registration number. Many Ontario extended health plans reimburse social worker psychotherapy under a paramedical or mental health benefit, but your plan decides, so check before booking. Coaching is usually not reimbursed. See fees, receipts and insurance.

No to all three. Therapists do not diagnose ADHD or any other condition, do not prescribe or adjust medication, do not carry out psychological testing, and do not prepare reports for school, work, insurers, disability, custody or legal purposes. Those come from the clinical side of your care.

You decide at intake. Notes can be placed on your general Finding Focus chart, where your other clinicians can see them, or kept only in the therapy record. Your therapist can read your existing chart either way. Finding Focus keeps the therapy record and handles your requests for access and correction.

A session is recorded only if you consent to recording that particular session, and you can decline with no effect on the session. With consent, the recording is transcribed on Finding Focus equipment in Canada and used to prepare a draft note that your therapist reviews; the recording is deleted once the drafts exist. Nothing from a session is used to train AI systems.

Sessions can only be provided while you are in Ontario, so a session while you are elsewhere is rescheduled rather than held. If you move, therapy is not available in your new province unless it has been activated; assessment and ongoing ADHD care remain available in the provinces Finding Focus serves. See outside Ontario.

Therapy sessions are not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 9-8-8, Canada's Suicide Crisis Helpline, at any time, or call 911.
