Therapy at Finding Focus is provided by a Registered Social Worker who works with adults with ADHD and alongside the clinicians who assess and prescribe. This page explains what that designation means in Ontario, what your therapist does, and what they leave to others.
Your therapist's profile, credentials and registration number are shown in the portal when you book. If you need help now, call or text 9-8-8, or call 911.

A Registered Social Worker in Ontario is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, holds a social work degree, and practises under the College's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Psychotherapy is a controlled act under Ontario's Regulated Health Professions Act, and social workers are among the professions authorized to perform it. The College's own guidance is clear that performing psychotherapy requires competence beyond the degree: specific education, supervision and experience. That is the standard your therapist works to.
Each therapist working with Finding Focus is an independent professional who carries on their own practice; Finding Focus provides the booking, payment, receipts, records and video systems through which sessions happen, and does not direct a therapist's professional judgment. Your therapist alone is responsible for the assessment and treatment decisions made in a session. What is different from booking a therapist elsewhere is access: your therapist can read your Finding Focus chart, including your assessment report and medication information, before you meet.
The boundaries are just as important as the skills. Your therapist does not diagnose ADHD or any other condition, does not prescribe or adjust medication, does not carry out psychological or neuropsychological testing, and does not prepare reports for legal, insurance, disability, custody, workplace or other third-party purposes. Diagnosis and letters come from your assessing clinician; medication stays with your prescribing clinician. If you need a report, the $49 diagnosis letter and $99 healthcare-provider report come from the clinical side of your care, not from therapy.
Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, practising under its Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, with a registration number you can verify on the College's public register.
Your therapist delivers both cognitive behavioural therapy and ADHD coaching, so you can move between the mood work and the routine work without changing people or repeating your history.
No diagnosis, no prescribing, no testing, no third-party reports. When a session touches medication, your therapist will point you back to your prescribing clinician rather than guess.
Before the first session your therapist reviews what exists on your Finding Focus record: the assessment, screening measures, and medication information.
The first session sets two or three specific targets for the track you chose, and confirms what is out of scope.
Skills, practice and review, with notes kept in the therapy record or on your general chart, as you chose at intake.
If something in therapy needs a clinical decision, such as a medication concern or a new diagnosis question, your therapist tells you who to take it to and, with your consent, can flag it on your chart.

No. A psychiatrist is a physician who can diagnose and prescribe. A psychologist can diagnose and carry out psychological testing but does not prescribe. A Registered Social Worker provides psychotherapy and counselling and does not diagnose, test or prescribe. At Finding Focus, diagnosis and prescribing stay with the licensed nurse practitioners and clinicians working with the clinic, and therapy is provided by the social worker.
